A Quiet Morning at the Beach

I only had a few seconds before this Osprey took flight, but it was enough to capture one of my favorite moments from the morning.

This tiny crab stood its ground for just a moment before deciding retreat was the better option, scurrying away to the safety of the rocks.

Watching this Great Blue Heron take flight was one of those moments that reminds me why I always carry my camera. Nature has a way of surprising us when we slow down long enough to notice.

It was an overcast morning at a local beach, but that didn't stop the wildlife—or me—from coming out to enjoy the day.

There weren't many people around, just the sound of waves rolling onto the shore and the wind rustling through the tall grasses. It felt like the beach belonged to nature that morning.

As I wandered, I encountered several Great Blue Herons quietly hunting along the shoreline. An Osprey flew overhead, giving me just enough time to snap a couple of photos before disappearing into the distance.

Crabs scurried across the rocks, clams squirted little streams of water from the sand, and tiny shorebirds busily explored the seaweed that had washed ashore, seemingly finding treasures I could barely see.

All around me were beautiful views of the Puget Sound—right here in my own backyard.

Sometimes it's easy to think we need to travel far to experience something extraordinary. But mornings like this are a reminder that some of nature's greatest wonders are closer than we realize.

All we have to do is slow down long enough to notice.

Lunch is served. After standing perfectly still for what seemed like forever, the Great Blue Heron’s patience paid off.

Tucked among the seaweed was this young finch, quietly searching for its next meal.
